Celebrate Spring with Flowers

March 20, 2014

Cheryl's Cookie Flower Pot

How do you celebrate spring? Whether it’s by giving your garden its annual makeover or enlisting the family in a day of juice-fueled spring cleaning,

this season is a time for a fresh start and new beginnings. Once the season’s first flowers come out of their winter hibernation and start peeking through the frozen blades of grass, we know its time to shed the winter blues and prepare for the season of life and growth. That’s why this year, we are celebrating spring by immersing ourselves in all things floral!

Here are some creative ways to celebrate spring with flowers; gather the troops and make this a spring celebration for the whole family!

Ways to Celebrate Spring with Flowers:

Eat Buttercream Frosted flower shaped cookies

What better way to ring in the season than with a batch of Cheryl’s FAMOUS buttercream frosted cookies shaped like flowers?! Send a cheerful Cookie Flower Pot of buttercream frosted cookies to those you love to help spread the spring cheer!

Go on a Family Hike

Take the whole gang out for a day of fresh air and flower identifying! Make it an educational (and fun) experience by bringing along a book of plants to help point out and bring attention to the plants growing you encounter along the way.

Make a Nature Book

Have kids gather flowers from your backyard or the local park and add them into their own collection box! Use mod podge or similar adhesive to secure the flower on the page; provide the children with markers so they can label the flowers accordingly for a creative and educational experience!

Make Your Own Flower Bouquet

The simplest fun yet festive way to celebrate spring is by simply gathering flowers and creating your own bouquet! Dress up your vase with a seasonal ribbon and you have a beautifully fresh decoration for the home.

Plant Your Own

Even if you don’t have a garden, gather the family and plant a flower or seed altogether! As your family grows so will the seedling sprout into something beautiful and new.

How to throw a fun, delicious and kid-approved Earth Day Party!

April 18, 2012

earth day party cookies cherylsWelcome back readers!

Earth Day is this Sunday, April 22, 2012! Environmental awareness is on the rise and garnering observances all over the world to bring attention to the things we can do to help our environment no matter how big or small the task. Earth Day can be a great time to start teaching your children at an early age how they can take up these responsibilities, or even use this day to start a change in your own habits. While this day is certainly very important, we also enjoy all the fun prospects that can go with it. One of which is throwing an Earth Day party! (Need more time to plan? Extend the fun and learning and make this an “Earth Week” celebration with the party next weekend!)

Green and blue are definitely the go to colors for your Earth Day Party decorations. We’re betting you can find tons of great table cloths, pillows, linens and everything needed for an eco-friendly party. Just be sure to buy stuff you will use again or can donate when you’re done. When looking for plates, utensils and cups make sure to find all recycled/recyclable products or items that you can use again in the future! Mason jars have been a popular choice for parties in the last year with very good reason. The reuse of mason jars is an endless list of fun and easy DIY projects. You can use them as centerpieces with bouquets of flowers in them, keep drinks fresh in them and ready for use, preserves, reuse for indoor plants, literally anything! Our friends at Celebrations.com have a very simple “dipped mason jar” how to on their blog here. mason jar uses cco

Looking for a fun and edible centerpiece idea? We’ve got you covered! Our new cookie flower pots are perfect for a family-friendly Earth Day party. Our delicious buttercream frosted cookies are delivered freshly made and decorated with spring and floral shapes and colors, contained in a reusable tin. All of our cookies are made with the finest and freshest of ingredients with no added preservatives! Kids will love the bright festive colors and sweet tastes. We also have plenty of flower, lady bug and butterfly cookies to place at the table as decorative Earth Day treats.

Other great snacks to include at your Earth Day party:

  • Mixed Veggie tray with ranch dip
  • Mixed Fruit tray with yogurt dip
  • “Ants on a Log” (celery, peanut butter and raisins)
  • Sliced apples with peanut butter, Nutella or caramel
  • Popcorn
  • Small sandwiches with wheat or multi-grain bread

Of course no Earth Day Party would be complete without some fun and educational activities! All activities are inexpensive (or free!), fun and easy to do no matter the size of your party.

  • Earth Day Word Puzzle: Create your own crossword or word scramble list (can find free programs online) using Earth Day related words!
  • Recycle Relay: Divide into teams (2 or 3 teams depending on party size) and give each team a bin filled with recyclables like plastic bottles, milk jugs, cardboard, etc. and three empty bins labeled as “Plastic,” “Paper” and “Glass.” Tell the teams that the first team to correctly sort all of their items in the proper bins wins!
  • Earth Day Pledge: Let them decorate plain white t-shirts with fabric markers or eco-friendly fabric paint with their Earth Day resolutions and ways that they can help the environment!

At the end of the day, you can make a good bag using recycled paper lunch bags filled with an individual Cheryl’s cookie (!), pencils, stickers, and (a great find from the Target dollar spot!) a small potted plant for them to take home.

This is a great party to throw anytime during the nice weather months ahead, with a great message that’s important to learn about every day of the year.

Happy (early) Earth Day!

Sweet Spring Celebration

March 21, 2012
Lemon Treats Gift Cheryls Cookies and Cakes Spring

Lemon Treats Gift

Welcome Back!

Spring is here! Warm weather means citrus flavors to us: tangy lime, spritely orange and zesty lemon; it also means not turning on the oven! Whether you’re celebrating indoors or out, bright colors will be key; try bringing out a festive table cloth incorporating the colors mixed with white plates.

We found this easy and family friendly drink (courtesy of drinksmixer.com) called Spring Fever.

You’ll need:

¾ oz lemon juice
¾ oz mango syrup
1 ½ oz pineapple juice
2 oz blood orange juice

Shake well over ice cubes in a shaker and strain into a glass half-filled with crushed ice.

*Helpful hint: if you don’t want your drinks diluted by the ice, cut out some fruit before-hand like melons or honey dew and freeze them. When your drinks are ready, replace the ice cubes with the frozen fruit!

Our sister-brand Celebrations.com already has a few great Spring and Summer recipes perfect for beating the heat and staying fresh, but one definitely caught our attention. Their Spring Citrus Salad is the perfect cure to the Winter slump we’ve all been feeling. It’s colorful, full of flavor and best of all: easy to make! Check out the recipe here on their website. For this purpose, we’ll go ahead and say that you don’t need to roast the beets; they taste great either way you choose.

Now on to our favorite part: dessert! All of our desserts are lovingly made with artisanal touches. We’re with our desserts through every part of the baking process; creating the mixture, flouring and buttering the pans, bringing to and from the oven, watching them rise, frosting the cookies and brownies, and many other loving details. Obviously we love all our cookies and cakes the same, but there is a special place in our hearts (and stomachs) for our lemon flavored treats. For all of our lemon treats, to secure the best flavor, we hand-squeeze lemons into our mixtures and use fresh lemon zest! You won’t find any artificial flavors near our sweet treats. All of our desserts are as homemade as you can get, so don’t be surprised when your party guests are impressed with your great baking skills (don’t worry, we won’t tell)!

Miss Grace Lemon Bundt Cake

Miss Grace Lemon Bundt Cake

So which lemon dessert should you choose? Our Miss Grace Lemon Bundt cake makes for the perfect Spring and Summer treat. Hand-dipped in our secret recipe lemon glaze to give it the moist and delicious taste, it’s also light, fluffy and great for sharing. Our Lemon Treats Gift is great for parties or gatherings as it offers a wider variety of desserts, including a glazed Miss Grace Lemon mini Bundt cake, zesty lemon buttercream frosted cookies and a lemon tea cake. A larger gift option also includes Lemon Cake slices.

Enjoy the warm weather and Spring recipes until next time!

Spring Cookies!

Spring Cookies!

This week’s blog post is from one of our Marketing experts, Gina.

A couple of weeks ago, a groundhog in Pennsylvania didn’t see his shadow, which according to legend, signifies that winter weather is drawing to a close.  And what welcome news after one of the craziest winters in recent history.  I don’t know about you, but I am ready for SPRING!  Cheryl’s is rolling out the Flowers, Easter eggs, and our NEW baby chick cookies because what better way to shake out of the winter doldrums than with cookies!  And buttercream frosting of course!

As much as I’ll miss the cold and the ice (haha), I’m so excited to see the trees sprout buds, the earliest flowers start to bloom, and the birds start to make their nests.  As the official season of rebirth and renewal, spring always feels like a brand new page, open to every possibility.  Even spring cleaning doesn’t sound so bad as a trade-off from being cooped up all winter!

I’m so excited about the coming of spring that I was wondering what your favorite part of spring is.  What are some traditions you and your family have for this time of year?  Can’t wait to hear your thoughts!
